Research Description:
OUR RESEARCH interests range in topics in the fields of skeletal and cardiac muscle function; the role of free radicals and inflammatory mediators on cell function; cellular stress responses to stimuli such as heat exposure, hypoxia and ischemia, and the interaction of reactive oxygen and reactive nitrogen with metabolism and cell survival; new NMR and fluorescent technologies related to free radical detection. We also study the physiologic and genomic responses to models of hypoxia, characteristic of sleep apnea. Clinical interests: pulmonary physiology, pulmonary rehabilitation, lung mechanics, emphysema and HIV-induced lung diseases.
