Research Description:

Our research focuses on free radical processes related to physiological and pathophysiological functions of reactive oxygen (ROS), reactive nitrogen (RNS) and reactive sulfur (RSS) species in various biological systems and models of oxidative stress.

Specific areas include: (i) functional EPR spectroscopy and imaging, including in vitro and in vivo applications, based on the development of new probes (among them pH-, SH- and NO-sensitive nitroxides), (ii) NMR Spin Trapping technique development and applications, using unique NMR-sensitive traps, to the study of EPR silent chemistry of the radical adducts and ROS detection in biological models of oxidative stress; (iii) the studies of redox chemistry of the nitroxides, nitrones and oxidant-sensitive fluorescent probes related to the mechanisms of their reaction with ROS and to their antioxidant properties.
