Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. However, all programs and activities are being administered in compliance with federal and state law.

Research Description

The goal of Dr. Ghadiali's laboratory is to use a combination of engineering, computational and molecular/cell biology techniques to investigate the mechano-biological mechanisms responsible for disease pathogenesis. His lab uses molecular, cellular and tissue level experiments and simulations to investigate the biophysical mechanisms of Ventilation Induced Lung Injury, Pulmonary Fibrosis and Cardiac Microcirculatory Disease. Specific projects include: using micro/nano engineering tools to develop a biomimetic in-vitro models of the alveolar-capillary barrier (i.e. lung-on-a-chip model), using experimental and computational techniques to evaluate surfactant physicochemical properties, using multi-scale computational models to evaluate novel pulmonary drug/gene delivery mechanisms and using image-based computational models to evaluate cellular remodeling of the extracellular matrix.
