Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. However, all programs and activities are being administered in compliance with federal and state law.

Research Description

In our group, we are interested in elucidating the biochemical and physiological mechanisms that determine the kinetics of cardiac and skeletal muscle contraction and relaxation in health and disease through the engineering of proteins.  Specific interests include:

  • Determine the cellular and molecular basis of muscle contraction and relaxation.
  • Understand how calcium binding proteins/enzymes are appropriately tuned kinetically to respond to calcium transients in vitro and in vivo.
  • Modulate cellular function through the design and engineering of calcium binding proteins and/or their binding partners.
