Research Interests: My research has involved the development of advanced MRI acquisition and analysis methods for a variety of clinical and basic research applications. As such, these research efforts have spanned a wide range of interdisciplinary fields from MRI physics and engineering to Radiology, Pharmacy, Anatomy, Otolaryngology, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science. I am planning to continue application of the new ultra-high resolution techniques for studies of patients with sensorineural hearing loss, including tumor growth measurements in follow-up studies of patients with acoustic neuroma, evaluation of congenital hearing loss and studies of Meniere's patients. Morphometric measurements of the sizes and shapes of inner ear structures and possibly study of fluid motion may be pursued. I am also nterested to extend high resolution MRI to other image applications such as imaging of the wrist, depiction and quantitation of cartilage, high resolution pelvic imaging and imaging of vessel walls with the objective to investigate progression of atherosclerosis. A study of the carotid arteries involving cardiac gated high resolution techniques is in progress. Other areas of interest are diffusion MRI with pplication to stroke patients, tissue characterization by MRI including study of tissue elasticity and fiber orientation and extension of MRI to study various physiological functions. |
