Mario Lauria
Research Description:
My research interests are in the following three areas: high performance distributed computing, biologically inspired models of computation, bioinformatics. In high performance computing I am working on cluster I/O and remote data access over the Grid. In my second line of research at the intersection of computer science and biology, I am exploring new ways of organizing large computations using biological models; also, I have recently started experimenting with computation by means of DNA transcription logic. Finally, I am collaborating with Ralf Bundschuh on a project aimed at improving the sensitivity of bioinformatics tools like PSI-BLAST for searching large protein databases.
